My pet rabbit, Bailey Butterbean

Hoppy Wednesday everyone!

I’m super excited to be heading home to my parents’ this weekend for a number of fun celebrations. It’s my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary party and then my cousin’s 21st birthday party the weekend after! Going home to see the fam is always something I look forward to, but also because I get to see my fluffy super-cute best friend, Bailey Butterbean. If you haven’t heard me talk about my rabbit before, then you’re in for a treat!

Ever since I was a child, I alllllways wanted a pet rabbit, but I was never allowed because we had dogs. So when our dog Rosie passed away in 2012, my family and I were all in a state of mourning. She was our little white fluffy angel (plus a goat and seal at times) and we missed her terribly. After about four/five months passed till we get to the day my sister was running up the stairs to my room with a leaflet, saying ‘I’m going to get a pet hamster!’ My sudden reaction was to shout out ‘I want a bunny rabbit!’

It took a fair bit of persuasion for my mum to agree (dad I guess just had to go along with it haha), and then my sister decided she wanted a rabbit too! We of course did thorough research prior to getting any new pets, and made sure we had everything ready to give the bunnies a great home.

When I first met Bailey, it was love at first sight. He’s a dwarf lionhead, so super fluffy and he just had the cutest little face and his eyes staring at me. I was allowed to pick him up and he snuggled up under my neck like he was meant for me. I had to take him home with me. My sister fell in love with a grey lop who was also in the same pen as Bailey. It just felt right to have them both from the same place.

Bailey helped me get through a very tough time in my life. I was diagnosed with depression, seeing a counsellor and taking medication. I was working reduced hours too, so the thing I looked forward to at the end of each day was getting home and letting Bailey hop around everywhere and on my lap for a snuggle. I have a habit of talking to my pets so talking to Bailey was a way of me processing my thoughts and emotions. He couldn’t understand what I was saying of course, but I like to think he wanted to be close to bring comfort to me.

Sadly, when I moved to London, I wasn’t able to take him with me... my parents and sister agreed to take care of him which I am eternally grateful for. Knowing he’s there for me when I come back to Southampton (on a near-monthly basis) is the best feeling in the world. I couldn’t quite imagine my life without my little ball of fluff. His personality is so sweet, smart (yes, bunnies do have brains!), funny and full of surprises.

I know people might think I’m a little crazy for obsessing over him, but he brings so much joy, love and comfort to my life, and I hope my family and I all bring fun and love to his little life too. He has always loved being around us, never bitten us and comes over to us on his own accord. I can't not think of him without bringing a smile to my face and a complete squee feeling.

Anyway, I just thought I’d take a break from the Disney stuff this week to share with you the other greatest love of my life.

Toodle pips!
